November 2002 Club Meeting
Our featured speaker was local musician Dale Pexa of the Dale Pexa Band, who talked about his career, the concertina and the music we all love. His greatest piece of advice for concertina players was to practice scales. He said he didn't become an accomplished player until he sat down with Silberhorn's book and practiced the scales. "Learn that, and you can play just about any music, guaranteed," said Dale.
Jerry Minar demonstrated his Tanzbar Concertina, an automatic playing instrument that plays a roll of perforated paper just like a player piano. The roll is visible in this photo. Once the cover is back one, the player squeezes a handle on the right side that causes the roll to advance. The palyer also squeezes the box to get the air flowing across the reeds.

You should have been at this meeting to hear these two young players show their stuff. Lower left is Tim Kline. On the right is Bill Bardon. These guys sure could play. The next generation of concertina players is a talented bunch.
